November was an incredible month for Mercy For Animals. We helped persuade the second-largest supermarket in the United States to take meaningful first steps toward reducing suffering for chickens.
After receiving messages from our supporters, Denny’s announced it would explore adding more plant-based options to its menu. And in Brazil, a large bakery partnered with us to add two vegan items.
Achieving Standout Charity Status
Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) officially released its list of recommended animal charities for 2021. ACE recognized Mercy For Animals as a standout charity, placing us among charities worldwide that are the most effective in reducing animal suffering.

A new Mercy For Animals investigation reveals animals left to suffer in filthy, barren pens and extreme heat at a Nebraska feedlot—without any shade or protection—often in triple-digit temperatures.

Reducing Suffering for Chickens
Brazil, United States
After engaging with Mercy For Animals and other organizations, Albertsons, the second-largest supermarket in the United States, adopted a policy to reduce suffering for some chickens in its supply chain. The policy specifically applies to the company’s organic private-label line.
After two years of discussion with us, the largest egg producer in the state of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil agreed to eliminate all cages used to confine hens.
Persuading Companies to Explore Plant-Based
United States
Denny’s has announced it is now actively exploring adding a plant-based protein option to its breakfast menu. The announcement also states that the company is looking to add plant-based options to all its other menus. This news follows several months of campaign activity by Mercy For Animals supporters asking breakfast chains across the United States to add vegan items.
Veganizing Bakery Menus
Brazil
After pressure from Mercy For Animals, Brazilian bakery 10 Pastéis launched two vegan pastries in all its locations. With nearly 100 stores in Brazil, 10 Pastéis is the largest Brazilian franchise offering pastries.
