Remembering Eva

Eva Rocha’s passion and devotion is an example for everyone in the animal movement.

Her love for chickens made her vegan at age 13, and that’s when she decided to be a voice for those who need it the most. She used her skills and expertise to save lives, reaching over 20 commitments with companies that decided to adopt meaningful policies to protect animals. She was a unique soul full of love and hope for a brighter future for animals.

“One of the most beautiful people on the planet that I have met, always positive, always with the best face… We could spend hours talking about a thousand topics—trips, work, cooking recipes, dog food, possums, books, funny things, yoga, meditation. We laughed so much. She was always there, in good and bad times.

The last time we talked, we spent hours talking, planning a trip. One of my favorite people, an incredible friend… She will always be in my heart. 💜

I thank life for having met her.”

“What a kind, beautiful, and compassionate soul the world has lost. Although I didn’t have the pleasure of working with Eva often, her dedication to creating a better world for animals will not be forgotten. She will be greatly missed, and my heart goes out to her friends and family. 💜”

“One of the most wonderful, kindest, friendliest people I have been lucky to meet. She always had a positive attitude and a smile. She was very special for the team, and we learned a lot from her. Eva was a great friend. She always listened and gave you advice. Thank you very much for everything, Eva!”

“One of my fondest memories of Eva was meditating with her and Mikael every morning. Eva always showed up with a huge smile on her face and brightened every room she entered. Eva was always so sweet and patient, and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her. We’ve suffered a tremendous loss, and we will never forget the bright light that Eva was.”

“I had the opportunity to spend a wonderful week in Guanajuato with our Mexico staff for last year’s staff retreat. On the drive to the airport after the retreat was over, I was sitting in the backseat of the car with Eva, and I had one of my first real in-depth conversations with her. While I can’t remember exactly what we talked about, I do remember that she asked such genuine questions, listened carefully, and responded thoughtfully. And she was always smiling! I don’t ever remember seeing her not smiling, in fact, and it made me happy, even though I was tired after the retreat. I learned about how she helped develop much of our work in Mexico, a fact that I hadn’t known because of how she never bragged about her accomplishments. Even though we never worked together closely, that one ride to the airport was all it took to give me the impression of Eva as one of the kindest, hardest-working, most caring, and joyous people I’d ever met. That’s something I’ll always remember and carry with me.”

“I was lucky enough to share an Airbnb with Eva during a CORP retreat to Los Angeles. It was so wonderful getting to meet this amazing, kind, inspiring, and generous woman in person. I mentioned to her that I missed speaking Spanish. Eva made sure to practice Spanish with me every time I talked to her after that weekend (and she was always patient with my rusty grammar). Each conversation with her began with a huge smile and a check-in about how my life was going. And the days when I was fortunate enough to speak with her always felt brighter. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to know and to work alongside Eva. She will be so missed.”

“Eva always found the perfect balance between being compassionate and being strong. Kind but firm. I will always remember her soothing energy, her inspiring words, and her love for animals. She is my inspiration to live more kindly, more intentionally, and more passionately. She has left a mark in my life and in the lives of all who were lucky enough to have met her, and she will forever make us strive to be more like her.”

“One of the kindest people I’ve ever met, always starting a conversation with a friendly greeting and asking how are you, giving warm words, and comforting when necessary… Always with a positive attitude, sharing what she knew about self-care through meditation or yoga… Without a doubt, we need more people with a vibe as special and peaceful as hers. Thank you very much, Eva, for your energy and love, for the animals and the world. 💜”

“When I think of Eva, I remember her smile. She had such a contagious smile! She had the power to light up a room and make things happier. Her personality—full of joy, charm, compassion, optimism, strength, resilience, and courage—always sparkled. Eva was always aiming to challenge herself and go further. She would always make time for you to listen and offer support, either for personal reasons or work. I loved how supportive she was, always asking, “How are you doing?”; “How are you feeling?”; “How can I help you?” She was a friend I could entrust with my feelings. She would entice me to see the big picture, take action, and see how magical life can be regardless of how tough it is too. I am grateful to have met her, first as a colleague, and to have gotten to know how great a team player she was. Then she became a friend from whom I learned that life is full of colors, colors from which we can choose to make this life more special. Her kindness, love for all animals, care for all people, and resilience, and showing us how we can dance in this roller coaster that life is about… This is how I’ll remember her and what I’ll take into my life. You are already missed, Eva!”
