Monthly Progress

March 2025

Mercy For Animals made significant progress in March. We secured commitments from The Human Bean and Peet’s Coffee to removing surcharges for plant-based milk, held retailers like Walmart Canada and REWE Group accountable for cage-free progress, and joined the Climate Observatory’s task force for COP30. These updates highlight our continued efforts to drive meaningful change for farmed animals.

February 2025

From securing the removal of plant-based milk surcharges at Dunkin’ locations in the United States to helping introduce vegan pancakes and enchiladas in Mexico, we are making plant-based options more accessible. Additionally, our efforts in Brazil have led to major progress in corporate commitments to cage-free egg sourcing and an exciting new partnership with one of the country’s largest catering services.

January 2025

We kicked off 2025 with far-reaching plant-forward governmental and corporate policies. These wins set the stage for a year of impact for animals.

December 2024

This December, we supported a leading Mexican department store in introducing a variety of vegan dishes at their first culinary festival of the year. We also pushed companies like Grupo Bimbo and Metro to make strides in their commitments to animal welfare.

November 2024

In November, Mercy For Animals secured key wins, including coffee chains eliminating plant-based milk surcharges and a popular Brazilian steakhouse fulfilling its cage-free pledge.

October 2024

Thanks to our generous supporters, October was a strong month at Mercy For Animals. We released a new investigation that exposes violations of a pork-industry certification program. A Brazilian bakery cut back on its use of eggs, while a Mexican media outlet covered a popular restaurant’s plant-based menu.

September 2024

As global policymakers discussed the future of our planet during Climate Week, we sent them a message that these critical conversations would not be effective without addressing the need for a shift toward plant-based food systems. In India, we moved two universities to swap out dairy products in their vending machines with plant-based ones. We launched a Transfarmation™ demonstration hub.

August 2024

In the UK, Mercy For Animals secured a landmark victory that will end the worst cruelty for the billions of shrimp in Tesco’s supply chain. In Brazil, we reached new milestones in our ongoing efforts to bring animal agriculture into climate policy conversations. And in the United States, the New York Times highlighted our Transfarmation™ program across two articles.

July 2024

Enacted more than 50 years ago, the Animal Welfare Act is the primary U.S. federal law regulating the treatment of animals used in certain industries. It has been amended a handful of times but never to expand farmed animal protections. We’re charting a path to change this, starting with care standards for pigs. This month our efforts reached a critical milestone.

June 2024

From spearheading plant-based policies in California and influencing environmental discussions in Europe to opening an office in Malaysia and holding massive demonstrations in London and Brazil, Mercy For Animals is a global force, and our presence around the world has never been stronger.

May 2024

From launching our first investigation in Chile to holding companies accountable to their animal welfare commitments, we continue to drive meaningful change for farmed animals around the world. Additionally, our influence on the Farm Bill and our prestigious environmental-award nomination highlight our ability to bring factory farms into pivotal policy conversations.

April 2024

At a historic gala in Los Angeles, Mercy For Animals supporters reflected on a quarter-century of unwavering dedication, advocacy, and compassion for farmed animals. To celebrate Dr. Jane Goodall’s 90th birthday, we co-created an inspiring star-studded video. And we countered a detrimental “ag-gag” bill in Kentucky by releasing a compelling investigation exposing conditions the legislation sought to keep hidden.

March 2024

In March, Mercy For Animals supported passage of the first octopus-farming ban in the United States. We also secured a novel policy from a foodservice company that sets concrete meat-reduction goals. A new undercover investigation in Brazil highlighted the horrors of cattle slaughter performed with sledgehammers and axes.

February 2024

We celebrated a huge victory in our aim to inspire local governments to shift purchases toward plant-based foods. We also released a new undercover investigation calling out one of the 20 largest U.S. restaurant chains for failing to keep animal welfare promises. In Brazil, several companies reported important progress on their pledges to eliminate cages from their egg supply chains.

January 2024

We welcomed a new year with an important launch event for schools serving plant-based meals in Brazil, an explosion of new oat milk items on menus across the United States, legislative efforts, and more.
