until all are free

This month’s pride celebrations mark 50 years since the Stonewall Rebellion, an event that sparked the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement in the United States.

In the 1960s, the laws, institutions, and culture oppressed members of the LGBTQ+ community. After a discriminatory police raid of a nightclub in New York City, people took to the streets to fight for freedom for everyone.

One year after Stonewall, the first pride parade took place.

This year especially, pride events remind us of the courage, pain, and persistence it took to get where we are today.

Fighting for the rights of any oppressed group helps protect the rights of all.

That’s why Mercy For Animals is honored to stand with the LGBTQ+ community. We believe everyone deserves to be respected and free regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.
