Our Mission
Mercy For Animals exists to end the greatest cause of suffering on the planet: the exploitation of animals for food, in particular, industrial animal agriculture, aquaculture, and fishing.
These forms of food production cause egregious animal suffering and have detrimental effects on the planet and people.
MFA is dedicated to eradicating this cruel food system and replacing it with one that is not just kind to animals but essential for the future of our planet and all who share it.
Our Programs
We are on the front lines fighting to protect farmed animals. From factory farms to corporate boardrooms, courts of justice to courts of public opinion, MFA is there to speak up against cruelty and to shift the food industry toward plant- and cell-based products.
Undercover Exposés
Shrouded in secrecy and hidden from public scrutiny, industrial farms raise and kill more than 9 billion animals a year in the United States. But what are they trying to hide? MFA undercover exposés of factory farms and slaughterhouses reveal the brutal realities of this violent and cruel industry.
Legal Advocacy
When MFA breaks an undercover exposé, we don’t just cut and run. We make sure animal abusers are brought to justice. Our legal department works diligently with enforcement agencies to make sure those who violate animal cruelty legislation are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. MFA’s legal team also works with lawmakers and advocates stronger animal protection laws worldwide.
Corporate Engagement
Large corporations have the power to change the lives of billions of animals with a single policy reform. Our corporate engagement department works with businesses large and small to help them adopt meaningful reforms that reduce animal suffering and to inspire them to see animals as much more than commodities.
Capacity Building
To create a better world for animals, we need a well-informed, empowered, and sustainable movement. We work to build the capacity, scale, and breadth of the animal protection movement by bringing in more advocates, coaching emerging volunteer leaders, collaborating with other movements, and researching how to make MFA—and all animal advocates—more effective.
Public Engagement
Our public engagement team inspires news stories in mainstream media, involves influential celebrities, produces hard-hitting videos, and reaches millions through social media to inspire support and advance MFA’s mission.
